In an era characterized by rapid geopolitical shifts and increasing global interdependence, the theme “Diplomacy Amidst Division: Collaborating in a Multipolar World” has been chosen for our conference to highlight the challenges and opportunities facing international relations today. The world is no longer dominated by a single power or a small group of global actors. Instead, we find ourselves in a multipolar world where regional powers, emerging economies, and diverse political ideologies shape the global order. This complexity necessitates a new approach to diplomacy, one that embraces collaboration while navigating the divisions that often define global discourse.
The choice of this theme reflects the growing importance of dialogue and cooperation amidst tensions between major powers. While traditional diplomatic mechanisms focused on managing relations between a few dominant countries, today’s challenges are more multifaceted. From trade wars and environmental crises to cyber threats and human rights debates, diplomacy must adapt to address both the longstanding issues of the 20th century and the new challenges of the 21st century.
In choosing this theme, we aim to create a platform for meaningful discussion on how to strengthen diplomatic frameworks, enhance international cooperation, and build bridges between states with competing interests. The conference seeks to explore the role of diplomacy in managing conflict, addressing global challenges, and forging partnerships that prioritize shared goals over division. In a multipolar world, the future of diplomacy lies in the ability to collaborate amidst division, working together to navigate an increasingly complex global landscape
